  • Reconstruction of West 84th Street/Mariners' Playground, the Central Park Conservancy is in the process of rebuilding the West 84th Street (Mariners') Playground. Originally constructed as one of the system of 18 playgrounds added around the perimeter of the Park between 1935 and 1936 under Parks Commissioner Robert Moses, the playground was renovated within the existing fence line in 1999, replacing the Moses-era equipment with new free-standing equipment and post-and-platform play structures.  This project will meet the design objectives outlined in the Plan for Play by addressing the relationship between the playground and the Park, the accessibility of the playground, and opportunities to add play value.
