Bryant Park Corp 2023 Spring and Summer Programming
At the regularly scheduled monthly Community Board Five meeting on Thursday, April 13, 2023, the following resolution passed with a vote of 33 in favor; 0 opposed; 2 abstaining:
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has submitted applications for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2023, consisting of the following activities and events:
- Chess, Checkers, Ping Pong and Petanque; daily (April-October)
- Art Cart; daily (April-October)
- Putting Green; daily (July-October)
- Reading Room; daily (April-October)
- Bee Keeping; TBD
- Camp Kids (formerly Le Carrousel); Saturday and Sunday afternoons (mid-June-August)
- Kids Creative Corner; daily (mid-May to September) (NEW)
- Birding Tours; selected weekday mornings and evenings (April-June and September-October)
- Tai Chi; Tuesday mornings (May-September)
- Ribbon Dancing; selected mornings (April- Early June)
- Fifth Ave. Terrace Fitness; daily (April-September)
- Juggling Classes; daily (All year)
- Knitting; weekly (mid-June-September)
- Yoga; weekly (June-August)
- Ribbon Dancing; weekly (April-early-June)
- Moves with Limón; Saturday mornings (June-September)
- Reading Room: Authors, Reel Talks, Books on Broadway, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Book Club, Writers Workshops
- Story Time for Kids; Tuesday mornings (June-August)
- Piano on the Terrace; mid-day (Late April-October)
- Bingo; Wednesdays (June)
- Shakespeare; May 25th
- American Symphony Orchestra; pop up concerts (four events in May and two events in September)
- Dance Party; Six events in May
- Square Dancing: September
- Musical Chairs; June
- Live at The Porch; Summer
- Picnic Performances, 26 evenings (June 1 through September 14)
- Monday Movie Nights; 10 Monday evenings (June 12 – August 14)
- Broadway in Bryant Park, 4 Thursdays (starts July 6)
WHEREAS, Unless noted above, all events and activities are repeat occurrences from past years; and
WHEREAS, All events are free of charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, There is a long-standing precedent for these events in Bryant Park; and Community Board Five has found a significant amount of support for these events from residents and stakeholders in the community; and
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed that when presenting future applications, they will clearly state whether or not these events are occurring concurrently with previously approved special events, and that if there are any material changes in any events from previous years, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed to return and present these changes to Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, These applications are understood to be comprised only of the seasonal events and activities described above, with any commercial event applications to come before Community Board Five separately; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the applications from Bryant Park Corporation for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2023
