Discover NY Project Company, LLC, at 160 West 45th Street, application on behalf of Rise NY for a revocable consent from DOT for overhead marquee platform
At the regularly scheduled monthly Community Board Five meeting on Thursday, July 14, 2022, the following resolution passed with a vote of 34 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:
WHEREAS, 160 West 45th Street is a building within a C6-7T Zoning District; and
WHEREAS, The building comprises Block 997, Lot 1; has a lot area of 44,475 square feet; and a lot frontage of 203.77 ft; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant is requesting to construct, maintain, and use a pedestal and railing as part of a pre-existing overhead marquee sign; and
WHEREAS, The requested structure will be used for a visitor’s standing area accessible from the building to view the street; and
WHEREAS, The structure is comprised of a replica hand and torch from the Statue of Liberty; and
WHEREAS, Visitors will walk onto the platform to take pictures and see Times Square after viewing the experiential Rise NY show highlighting New York’s most famous sites and moments; and
WHEREAS, The capacity of the structure will be limited to no more than eight people at a time; and the live load will comply with NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) standards; and
WHEREAS, The structure extends 9 ft over the sidewalk and 4 ft from the street, and is comprised of a code compliant 42-inch railing and concrete platform; with the floor of the platform sitting 31.6 ft above street level; and
WHEREAS, CB5 believes this structure is a wonderful complement to a show that provides visitors with an important understanding of New York’s history and culture; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application requesting a revocable consent from DOT to construct, maintain, and use a pedestal and railing as part of an overhead marquee sign above and over the south sidewalk of West 45th Street of Broadway at 160 West 45th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues.
