Application from Harrison & Shriftman to hold a marketing event to promote booking.com in Herald Square Park on September 28th-29th, 2018
WHEREAS, Harrison & Shriftman (“Applicant”) has submitted an application to hold a special event in partnership with booking.com in the north section of Herald Square Park (the “Event”); and
WHEREAS, The Event will take place on Thursday, September 27th and Friday, September 28th between the hours of 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, with set-up beginning at 12:00 AM on September 27th and breakdown completed by 11pm on September 29th; and
WHEREAS, A site plan for the Event has been submitted by the Applicant, and includes a “tiny house” with 360-degree walk-around views that will be approximately 8’ x 20’, with the components of the house including: ·
WHEREAS, A 12’ x 8’ x 6’ oversize couch will be within the structure for photo opportunities; and
WHEREAS, The Event is to promote the website booking.com’s partnership with the comedian Kevin
Hart, and will include a cutout for people to take photos with; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hart will be making an unannounced appearance 12pm-1pm on September 28th,
which will be closed off to the public and only open to members of the press; and
WHEREAS, The Event will coincide with a “contest” sponsored by booking.com to win an overnight
stay in the “tiny house” on the evening of September 27th as well as tickets to Kevin Hart’s performance at
Madison Square Garden that evening, with security being present overnight; and
WHEREAS, Signage will consist of 5 freestanding marketing signs measuring 22” x 28”, each on a stand
that measures 60” tall, and one archway at the entrance of the park measuring 12’ x 14’; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant has received approval and support from the 34th Street Partnership; and will
be giving them a sizable donation; and
WHEREAS, The Event will not be using an amplified sound system; nor will there be the use of a
subwoofer; and
WHEREAS, No food items or any other merchandise items will be sold at the Event; and
WHEREAS, The event would be open to the public and free of charge; and
WHEREAS, Although the proposed Event is of relatively minimal impact, Community Board Five
expresses concern over using this section of Herald Square Park for any events with a large expected
turnout, given the relative size and density of Herald Square Park and its surrounding area, and
encourages the New York City Parks Department to review all programming decisions for this area
carefully; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Harrison &
Shriftman to hold a marketing event to promote booking.com in Herald Square Park on September 27th-
28th, 2018.
