Application for a distinctive sidewalk at a new residential development at 220 Central Park South, along the south side of Central Park South and the north side of West 58th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues
WHEREAS, Vornado Realty Trust, on behalf of their client 220 Central Park South, has submitted an application for a new distinctive sidewalk on both frontages of the building’s construction footprint on Central Park South and West 58th Street; and
WHEREAS, Central Park South is a unique street with several special, non-matching distinctive sidewalks that make this installation appropriate and not disruptive; and
WHEREAS, The new distinctive sidewalk references other design in this area and enhances the visual quality of the sidewalk at 220 Central Park South; and
WHEREAS, The new distinctive sidewalks are in a harmonious design with simple and elegant materials; and
WHEREAS, The proposed sidewalk is in scale with standard sidewalk construction; and
WHEREAS, The scope of work shall include replacement of the existing poured concrete sidewalk with Deer Isle granite pavers with flamed finish, sized 5 'x 5' or 5' x 7', along with new granite curbs to match the proposed distinctive sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, The proposed sidewalk materials are weather resistant, including an ice melt system, which was previously approved for installation by Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, Four (4) new tree pits will be installed along West 58th Street, with consideration to sidewalk alignment and pedestrian flow, and with landscaping consultation from the New York City forestry department; and
WHEREAS, One (1) tree pit and one (1) light post will be reinstalled along Central Park South upon building completion; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Vornado Realty Trust for a new distinctive sidewalk along the building footprint of 220 Central Park South on Central Park South and West 58th Streets.
