Applications from Bryant Park Corporation for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2018
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has submitted applications for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2018, consisting of the following events:
- Art Cart; Wednesdays from April-September
- Spelling Bee; Two Friday evenings in August
- Accordion, Emerging Bands, Latin Dancing and New Music Festivals; one day each June-August
- Meditation Classes; Tuesday mornings June-August
- Tai Chi classes; Tues/Thurs mornings May-Sept
- Birding Tours; Monday mornings and Thursday evenings April-May and Thursday mornings April-May and September-October
- Language Classes; Monday and Wednesday lunch hour May-August
- Fly Fishing Classes; eight mornings from April through June
- Knitting Classes; Tuesday afternoons late June-Aug
- Fencing Classes; Friday afternoons April-June and Sept
- Juggling Classes; Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings March-Oct
- Bryant Park Moves with Limon Dance; Saturday mornings June-Sept
- Musical Chairs; June
- Broadway in Bryant Park; Thursday lunch hours mid-July-Aug
- Summer Film Festival; Monday evenings late June-Aug
- Ping Pong, Chess, and Petanque; daily April-Sept
- Piano in Bryant Park; weekday afternoons May-early Oct
- Book Bash; one Wednesday in July
- Le Carrousel Kids events; Saturday and Sunday afternoons mid-June-Aug
- Reading Room Events (Word for Word Talks/Poem in Your Pocket Day); weekdays
- Fit Club; Fountain Terrace, Mon-Wed-Fri
- Dancing in Bryant Park; Fountain Terrace, Six Wednesdays
- Bryant Park Shakespeare; Upper Terrace, Six Weekends
- New for 2018: Concert Series in partnership with Carnegie Hall
- New for 2018: One night master class with American Ballet Theatre followed by career discussions with dancers
- Accordion Picnic; June 29, 6-8pm;
- Friday Picnics: 5-10pm every summer Friday; and
- New for 2018: Pilates series, weekly (replacing Farmers Market which has been discontinued)
WHEREAS, All events and activities are repeat occurrences from past years, with the exceptions of new activities listed above; and
WHEREAS, All events are free of charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, There is a long-standing precedent for these events in Bryant Park; and Community Board Five has found a significant amount of support for these events from residents and stakeholders in the community; and
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed that when presenting future applications, they will clearly state whether or not these events are occurring concurrently with previously approved special events, and that if there are any material changes in any events from previous years, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed to return and present these changes to Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, These applications are understood to be comprised only of the seasonal events and activities described above, with any commercial event applications to come before Community Board Five separately; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the applications from Bryant Park Corporation for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2018.
