29 West 26th Street, application for sidewalk vault repair
WHEREAS, 29 West 26th Street is a building located in the Madison Square North Historic District; and
WHEREAS, The original granite sidewalk in front of the building is in extreme deterioration; and
WHEREAS, The steel structure holding up the sidewalk is also in a state of advanced deterioration; and
WHEREAS, The applicant has investigated in good faith options to replace the original granite sidewalk using the same material with the same specifications but to-date that granite is no longer available; and
WHEREAS, The sidewalk on the remainder of the street not fronting 29 West 26th Street is concrete; and
WHEREAS, The applicant is planning to use concrete that is a match in color and style to that on the adjacent properties and remainder of the street; and
WHEREAS, The applicant is also making a slight alteration to the sloped entrance to the commercial space so that it is less visible from the sidewalk while also becoming ADA compliant; and
WHEREAS, The applicant agreed to continue to seek out two to three additional granite suppliers and if material equal to the original is located will instead switch the repair from concrete and use this material; therefore be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the proposed application for sidewalk vault repair at 29 West 26th Street.
