Application from Union Square Partnership in coordination with Citibank for “Celebrate Fall,” a special event in Union Square Park featuring an interactive ball pit on October 24th, 2017
WHEREAS, Union Square Partnership in coordination with Citibank ("Applicant") has submitted a permit application to hold "Celebrate Fall," a special event in Union Square Park featuring an interactive ball pit on October 24th, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Although Applicant is a trusted partner in managing this critical public space in our district, with whom Community Board Five shares a positive and constructive relationship, the event application was submitted without sufficient time for it to be heard at a public hearing of Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five takes its role in the review of applications for special events in our parks seriously and substantively reviews the applications in order to provide input to the Parks Department; and
WHEREAS, Because of the insufficient time allowed for a public review process, Community Board Five and the public in general were denied the opportunity to learn about this event, ask questions, and provide input, resulting in an automatic recommendation of denial pursuant to Community Board Five policy; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application from Union Square Partnership in coordination with Citibank for "Celebrate Fall," a special event in Union Square Park featuring an interactive ball pit on October 24th, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, As the timing of the application being submitted to the Parks Department prevented a proper public hearing in advance of the event, Community Board Five continues to request that the Parks Department extend the minimum notice required of event applications, to ensure that they can be given a proper public hearing.
