Application from Bryant Park Corporation for “Scooper Bowl New York”, an event to take place in Bryant Park near the Fountain Terrace to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital from June 1-3 between 12:00 pm & 9:00 pm
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation ("Applicant") has submitted a permit application to hold "Scooper Bowl New York", a fundraising event to take place in Bryant Park adjacent to the Fountain Terrace to benefit the Jimmy Fund and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, two non-profit charitable organizations, from June 1st through 3rd between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Set up would begin on the late evening of May 31st and cleanup would be completed no later than the early morning of June 4th; and
WHEREAS, The Event will include the sale of ice cream by reputable local and national brands, including Ben and Jerry's, Coolhaus and Adirondack Creameries, all of which are donating their goods for the purpose of raising funds for the indicated charities, in the form of "All you Can Eat" tickets to be sold to the general public on site and in advance for prices ranging from $20 to $25 per person; and
WHEREAS, The Event shall additionally include a limited schedule of events such as a Children's Dance Workshop, Face Painting, and a series of opening and closing remarks discussing the activities and goals of the non-profit beneficiaries; and
WHEREAS, Tables and eating areas shall be managed by BPC staff to ensure proper management of sanitation, pedestrian traffic, and reasonable levels of amplified sound, with no sub-woofers being used and whose range is not designed to extend past the Fountain Area, in order to minimize any disruption to the rest of Bryant Park; and
WHEREAS, Signage will be minimal, restricted to advertising the event itself, the names of participating brands (with no logos), and the non-profit organizations being benefitted; and
WHEREAS, BPC estimates a total attendance of approximately 10,000 people over the three-day course of the event, with staffing of 10 dedicated workers; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five believes that the nature of the programming is to the public's benefit, raises funds for a good cause, includes local companies, and has minimal impact on the public's use of the park on the event days in question; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Bryant Park Corporation for "Scooper Bowl New York", an event to take place in Bryant Park adjacent to the Fountain Terrace to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital from June 1st through 3rd between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
