Application from Union Square Partnership to hold "Citi 44 Million Yard Challenge," a special event on the North Plaza of Union Square Park on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 from 12:30PM - 6:30 PM
WHEREAS, Union Square Partnership ("Applicant") has submitted an event permit application for "Citi 44 Million Yard Challenge," a special event for the PGA Presidents Cup and No Kids Hungry; and
WHEREAS, The event consists of a box truck which houses virtual reality simulators, with which event attendees can have the simulated experience of hitting a golf ball on a long drive on the golf course at Liberty National, overlooking the Statue of Liberty; when the cumulative goal of 44 million yards (the circumference of the globe) is reached from the shot distances of all event participants, Applicant will donate one million meals to the non-profit organization No Kids Hungry; and
WHEREAS, Other small activities will include an actual putting green, small puttskee and a photobooth; and
WHEREAS, Set up time is Tuesday September 12, 2017 10:00AM and clean-up end time is 8:30PM and;
WHEREAS, This event is part of a traveling activation around the tri-state area; and
WHEREAS, By partnering with Union Square Partnership on this activation, 100% of the permit fees will go to the maintenance and upkeep of Union Square Park; and
WHEREAS, Attendance will be limited to existing foot traffic, with an estimated attendance of 500 participants; and
WHEREAS, Commercial signage will be kept to a bare minimum on the truck; and amplified sound is to be kept within a 10-20 foot reach and care will be taken to minimize the reach of amplified sound to buildings on East 17th Street; and
WHEREAS, The event is for a charitable cause, has minimal impact on the park and benefits the public interest; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Union Square Partnership to hold "Citi 44 Million Yard Challenge," a special event on the North Plaza of Union Square Park on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 from 12:30PM - 6:30 PM.
