Application by SBE Hotels for a designated Hotel Loading Zone on East 30th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues and a Hotel Drop-Off Zone on Park Avenue between East 30th and 31st Streets.
WHEREAS, The Applicant, SBE Hotels owns and operates the SLS Park Avenue Hotel, located at 444 Park Avenue South; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant seeks adesignated Hotel Loading Zone the approximate equivalent length of three (3) parking spaces on the north side of East 30th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues and a Hotel Drop-Off Zone the approximate equivalent length of three (3) parking spaces on the east side of Park Avenue between East 30th and 31st Streets; and
WHEREAS, Absent any special circumstances, the Department of Transportation ("DOT") traditionally grants a Hotel Loading Zone of the equivalent length of one (1) parking space in front of the main entrance for hotels of this size; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant's request far exceeds the routine disposition of such Loading and Drop-Off Zones; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant presented no special or extenuating circumstances to differentiate the SLS Park Avenue's situation from those of other comparably-sized hotels; and
WHEREAS, DOT has committed to address the issue in the future with the Applicant if a need for a larger Loading or Drop Off Zone arises; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five defers to DOT's expertise in assigning routine Hotel Loading and Drop-Off Zones absent special circumstances; therefore be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application by SBE Hotels for a designated Hotel Loading Zone on East 30th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues and a Hotel Drop-Off Zone on Park Avenue between East 30th and 31st Streets.
