Application from Preview Events to hold “Brayola Promotion,” a commercial event in Greeley Square Park on Thursday, September 8, 2016
WHEREAS, Preview Events ("Applicant") has submitted a permit application to hold "Brayola Promotion" (the "Event"), a commercial event in Greeley Square Park on Thursday, September 8, 2016, to allow female park patrons to participate by going inside two booths with wind machines to try to catch their bra size on bra paper cutouts; and
WHEREAS, The Event would begin at 2pm and end by 8pm; with setup starting at 8am and cleanup ending by 9pm; and would consist of two booths with a small generator, branded popup signage, and iPad stands; and
WHEREAS, Brand ambassadors for Brayola would distribute giveaways to park guests throughout the day; and
WHEREAS, Applicant did not attend the public hearing, nor provide materials for review despite multiple requests by email and phone by Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, Representatives of the Bryant Park Corporation appeared at the public hearing, and noted that the Applicant had been unresponsive to their requests for information as well; and
WHEREAS, Due to the failure by the Applicant to submit documentation in a timely manner, Community Board Five and the public in general were denied the opportunity to learn about this event, ask relevant questions, and provide input, warranting an automatic denial pursuant to Community Board Five policy; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application from Preview Events for "Brayola Promotion," a commercial event in Greeley Square Park on Thursday, September 8, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, As the timing of the application being submitted to the Parks Department prevented a proper public hearing by Community Board Five in advance of the event, Community Board Five continues to request that the Parks Department extend the minimum notice required of event applications, to ensure that they can be heard at a public hearing.
