Application by CANY to replace sidewalk paving at 420 Lexington Avenue.
WHEREAS, CANY, has submitted a request for Community Board Five approval on behalf of the Grand Central District Management Association, Inc. ("GCDMA") and Grand Central Partnership, Inc. ("GCP") of the replacement of existing deformed ventilation gratings and existing granite paving, as well as the removal and replacement of existing concrete topping at the Southwest and Northwest Corners of East 44th Street and Lexington Avenue, adjacent to 420 Lexington Avenue (the "Location"); and
WHEREAS, GCDMA entered into an agreement with the New York City Department of Transportation on June 12, 1995 whereby GCDMA and GCP would maintain the sidewalks at the Location (the "Maintenance Agreement"); and
WHEREAS, As part of the Maintenance Agreement, any changes to the sidewalks must have the support of the local Community Board through the Public Design Commission; and
WHEREAS, The GCDMA and GCP wish to remove MTA grates/frames, and support beams as well as the existing red granite paving at the north end of the Location and replace it with New York City Department of Transportation standard granite grey sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, The existing red granite is from 1995, has deteriorated, and lacks a ramp on the curb for handicap accessibility; and
WHEREAS, The work is already in progress and the rest of the sidewalk has been repaired with the use of the granite grey sidewalk so this would result in a uniform design; and
WHEREAS, The GCP will coordinate the recycling of the replaced red granite paving; and
WHEREAS, No members of the public commented on this application; and
WHEREAS, The Community Board felt that the change did not have any adverse effect to the overall appearance of the sidewalks in the Location; therefore be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the request by CANY on behalf of the Grand Central District Management Association, Inc. ("GCDMA") and Grand Central Partnership, Inc. ("GCP") to replace existing deformed ventilation gratings and existing granite paving, as well as remove and replace of existing concrete topping at the Southwest and Northwest Corners of East 44th Street and Lexington Avenue, adjacent to 420 Lexington Avenue.
