Application from the Productions for “Kellogg’s 100 Days Out” event in Union Square on Thursday, April 28, 2016, from 8:00am to 12:00pm
WHEREAS, TH Productions on behalf of Kellogg's ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold "Kellogg's 100 Days Out," an event to promote Kellogg's sponsorship of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, and the 100-day countdown to the start of the Games; and
WHEREAS, Applicant's objective is to build consumer and media awareness by hosting five Olympic athletes within the event footprint of the North Plaza of Union Square Park; and
WHEREAS, The event would be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with set-up beginning the evening prior, April 27 at 9:00pm, and breakdown to be completed by 7:00 pm the date of the event; and
WHEREAS, The event will consist of a 15' x 8' main stage where athletes will be introduced and an intro gymnastics routine performed, as well as five approximately 10' x 12' vignette spaces featuring different athletic Olympic sports (Swimming, Discus, Track & Field, Gymnastics, and Soccer), with each vignette to include a fabricated backdrop and television screen displaying content featuring athlete's journey to the Games; and
WHEREAS, Activities and demonstrations will take place within the vignette areas (on sub flooring with a vinyl G-floor laid on top), and the public will be welcomed into each vignette to interact with athletes; and
WHEREAS, The event will be free-of-charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Amplified sound will be limited to small speakers for the introductions and athlete announcements, with no sub-woofers utilized; and;
WHEREAS, Signage will be limited to Kellogg's logo and American Flag/Olympic rings on panel of each vignette adjacent to plasma screens; front and rear sides and;
WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to make a donation to the Union Square Partnership above and beyond any required fees, in response to the Community Board Five's request; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to have no fewer than fifteen personnel dedicated to sanitation during the event, and will provide recycling bins for applicable refuse in response to Community Board Five's request; and
WHEREAS, Although this is meant to be an event covered by the press, no filming of the event or of the public will be conducted for commercial purposes, and signage will be posted for the public's awareness that filming is underway in the area, with release forms to be required should any individual members of the public participate in any filming, in response to community concerns; and
WHEREAS, Although a " Breakfast Cart" is proposed, which would serve promotional samples of Kellogg's breakfast options by a licensed caterer, Community Board Five requests that only healthy options such as breakfast bars be distributed; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is proposing an event which, while commercial in nature, has minimal impact otherwise, and Applicant has considerably reduced the shape of its event in response to the Committee's concerns; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from TH Productions for "Kellogg's 100 Days Out" in Union Square Park on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
