Application from Roundhouse Agency for “Nest Product Info and Demo,” a commercial event in Bryant Park from Thursday, October 23, through Sunday, November 2, 2014
At the regularly scheduled monthly Community Board Five meeting on Thursday, October 09, 2014, the following resolution passed with a vote of 35 in favor; 0 opposed; 2 abstaining; 1 present but not entitled:
WHEREAS, Roundhouse Agency ("Applicant") has submitted a permit application to hold "Nest Product Info and Demo," a commercial event in Bryant Park to act as a passive brand installation to showcase a new product by Nest, namely a carbon dioxide detector; and
WHEREAS, Event would consist of the display of a 6'0" x 6'0" glass cube in the Park, with messaging about home safety and having the right technology to appropriately warn about carbon dioxide and smoke detectors; and
WHEREAS, The display would be placed in one of two high foot-traffic locations, either the Fountain Terrace, or the Upper Terrace; and
WHEREAS, The display would be staffed by two brand ambassadors during the day to answer questions from curious and inquisitive members of the public; and
WHEREAS, Applicant intends to provide security overnight to prevent damage to the display; and
WHEREAS, Applicant did not submit required event proposal information and associated documentation in a timely manner; and
WHEREAS, Applicant was requested to appear at a public hearing on September 29, 2014 to present their application for review, yet failed to attend; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five takes its role in the review of applications for special events in our parks seriously, and substantively reviews the applications in order to provide input to the Parks Department; and
WHEREAS, Because of the failure by the Applicant to participate in this review process, Community Board Five and the public in general was denied the opportunity to learn about this event, ask questions, and provide input, resulting in the Committee's automatic denial pursuant to Community Board Five policy; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application from Roundhouse Agency for "Nest Product Info and Demo," a commercial event in Bryant Park from Thursday, October 23, through Sunday, November 2, 2014.
