Applications from Bryant Park Corporation for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2014
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, May 08, 2014, the following resolution passed with a vote of 34 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining; 1 present not entitled to vote:
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has submitted applications for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2014, consisting of the following events:
- Tai Chi classes; Tues/Thurs mornings April 30-Sept 26
- Birding Tours; Monday mornings and Thursday evenings April 8-May 23 and Thursday mornings September 26-October 4
- Language Classes; Monday and Wednesday lunch hour May 6-Aug 28
- Fly Fishing Classes; eight mornings from April through June
- Knitting Classes; Tuesday afternoons June 18-Aug 27
- Fencing Classes; Friday afternoons April 5-June 14 and Sept 6-Oct 11
- Juggling Classes; Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings March 12-Oct 31
- Bryant Park Moves with Limon Dance; Saturday mornings May 25-Sept 7
- Musical Chairs; June 3
- Broadway in Bryant Park; Thursday lunch hours July 11-Aug 15
- Summer Film Festival; Monday evenings June 17-Aug 19
- Ping Pong, Chess, and Petanque; daily April-Sept
- Piano in Bryant Park; weekday afternoons May 13-Oct 11
- After Work Music Series; weekdays 6-7 p.m. June 5-Aug 28
- Breakfast Briefings; five Tuesday mornings May-Sept
- Le Carrousel Kids events; Saturday and Sunday afternoons June 15-Aug 17
- Reading Room Events (Word for Word Talks and Poem in Your Pocket Day); weekdays June 15-Aug 24;
- Fit Club – Fountain Terrace, Mon-Wed-Fri
- Dancing in Bryant Park – Fountain Terrace, Six Wednesdays
- Bryant Park Shakespeare – Upper Terrace, Six Weekends; and
WHEREAS, All events and activities are repeat occurrences from past years (with the exception of Dancing in Bryant Park and Bryant Park Shakespeare, which are additions), are free of charge and are open to the public; and
WHEREAS, There is a long-standing precedent for these events in Bryant Park; and Community Board Five has found a significant amount of support for these events from residents and stakeholders in the community; and
WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed that when presenting future applications, they will clearly state whether or not these events are occurring concurrently with previously approved special events, and that if there are any material changes in any events from previous years, Bryant Park Corporation has agreed to return and present these changes to Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, These applications are understood to be comprised only of the seasonal events and activities described above, with any commercial event applications to come before Community Board Five separately; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the applications from Bryant Park Corporation for programming and annual special events for Spring and Summer 2014.
