Application from The Impression Group South ("Applicant") to hold “A Thailand experience” in Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 2, 2014
At the regularly scheduled monthly Community Board Five meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2014, the following resolution passed with a vote of 39 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:
WHEREAS, The Impression Group South ("Applicant") is applying to hold "A Thailand Experience" in Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 2, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Applicant plans for the event to be interactive and cultural, bringing awareness for Thailand as a future destination to visitors in Madison Square Park; and
WHEREAS, The event will take place in the south gravel area of the Park and will include an installation of a tent, food & drink stations, flat panel LED Screens, a stage, and picnic tables; and
WHEREAS, Setup will begin no earlier than 6 a.m. and breakdown will end no later than midnight; and
WHEREAS, There will be performances intermittently throughout the event on the stage, to include dance, a fashion show, cooking demonstrations and boxing demonstrations; and
WHEREAS, The performances will commence at 11:30 a.m. and end by 8:00 p.m., and the Applicant agreed to keep 25 minute intervals between each demonstration to lessen the continuous noise from the performances; and
WHEREAS, Members of the public will be able to buy Thai food & drinks; and
WHEREAS, There will be an area within the event where alcohol will be sold and consumed, and this area will be fenced in and security will be provided; and
WHEREAS, Signage will consist of six to eight signs that are each 4' wide by 6' high, with Thailand branding only, and there will be no sponsor signage present at the event; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant will provide its own team of sanitation in addition to the support from the Madison Square Park Conservancy, as well as a professional sanitation service from Action Carting; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant will have a dedicated VIP area from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for up to 50 people, including dignitaries from Thailand, which will be under a tent; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant will be making a large donation to the Madison Square Park Conservancy; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant will have a sound engineer on-site to maintain appropriate sound levels and will coordinate with the Madison Square Park Conservancy regarding sound levels, in advance and on the day of the event; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five deems this commercial event to have a cultural benefit for the public, as well as a benefit for the Madison Square Park Conservancy; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application by The Impression Group South ("Applicant") to hold "A Thailand Experience" in Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 2, 2014.
