727 Fifth Avenue, revocable consent to install, maintain and use four planters on the existing sidewalk in front of Tiffany & Co.
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, July 10, 2014, the Board passed the following resolution by a vote of 39 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining.
WHEREAS, The Applicant, Tiffany & Company, submitted a request for revocable consent from DOT to install, maintain and use four planters on the existing sidewalk in front of their retail location on 727 Fifth Avenue, and
WHEREAS, This installation is intended to add an element of natural greenery to the Fifth Avenue side of the building, for the beautification and enhancement of the sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, The planters will help reduce pedestrian spillage onto Fifth Avenue by those taking pictures of the Tiffany façade; and
WHEREAS, The planters match planters just South on Fifth Avenue in front of the Trump Tower; and
WHEREAS, The planters will not impede pedestrian flow on the sidewalk or the crosswalk, and will be approximately 18 feet away from the building, 2 feet 4 inches from the curb and 3 feet 6 inches from the tree grates with 5 feet between each planter; and
WHEREAS, The planters will contain boxwood trees not taller than 6 feet; and
WHEREAS, The applicant agreed that the trees will not exceed 6 feet and that any increase in height may be seen as impeding the visual corridor of 5th Avenue and would be taken up by the Committee with approval to be reconsidered; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Tiffany & Company to install four planters in front of 727 Fifth Avenue.
