Midtown North Precinct Explorers/ Midtown Community Council and Paramount Building Holiday Gift Expo, in front of 1633 Broadway, between 50th and 51st Street on November 18th to January 3rd.
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, October 10, 2013, the Board passed the following resolution by a vote of 28 in favor; 2 opposed; 2 abstaining:
WHEREAS, Joint Applicants, Midtown North Precinct Explorers/ Midtown Community Council and the Paramount Building desire to hold a gift expo on the street side of the sidewalk on Broadway between 50th and 51st Streets; and
WHEREAS, The proposed gift expo would take place from November 18th thru December 29th from 9:00 am to 10pm; and
WHEREAS, The proposed gift show would consist of a series of prefabricated buildings placed directly on the sidewalk and totaling 28' in width and 7' in depth; and
WHEREAS, The sidewalk in this area is more than 20 feet wide and is adjacent to the Paramount Building's public plaza leaving more than 13 feet of space for pedestrian traffic; and
WHEREAS, This proposed configuration would leave more than 15 feet between the crosswalks and the gift buildings on both sides; and
WHEREAS, The buildings will contain no commercial advertising other than the names of the charities who will benefit from the expo; and
WHEREAS, The applicants have agreed to amend their initial request to end the gift expo on the 29th of December and have the buildings cleared from the sidewalk by December 30th in anticipation of the New Year's Eve celebration; and
WHEREAS, This event is being looked at on a trial basis and should not be considered grandfathered, and the applicant has agreed, should they wish to hold this event in the future, they will first come back before Community Board Five for evaluation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application for a Holiday Gift Expo, in front of 1633 Broadway, between 50th and 51st Street on November 18th thru December 29th.
