Application from Civic Entertainment Group for Triscuit’s promotional launch event of new cracker line in Father Duffy Square on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, March 14, 2013, the following resolution passed with a unanimous vote of 33 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:
WHEREAS, Civic Entertainment Group ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold Triscuit's promotional launch event of a new cracker line in Father Duffy Square on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is an event production firm that has worked extensively in Father Duffy Square, and at other locations in Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, The event would consist of a 30' X 40' open-sided tent with tables for sampling product, a celebrity chef appearance, and two 8' x 10' LED screens facing inward which will display live footage of the event shot by a film crew; and
WHEREAS, Set-up would begin no earlier than midnight on April 3rd and breakdown would be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. that day; and
WHEREAS, The event would make use of amplified sound for speaking purposes and accompanying background music only, with set-up to include two small speakers and no sub-woofer; and
WHEREAS, Applicant estimates attendance at 1,000, and will have between 28-30 staffers present over the course of the event, including a sanitation team of 10 people to handle on-site trash, and will work with Times Square Alliance for any additional sanitation support needed; and
WHEREAS, Applicant will be distributing samples but will not be selling anything at this event; and
WHEREAS, Signage is minimal, limited to a small banner placed outside of the tent but within the footprint of the proposed event;
WHEREAS, Applicant is working with the Parks Department and Times Square Alliance regarding this event; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is proposing an event which, while strictly commercial in nature, has minimal impact otherwise, as it is a one-day event during a non-peak period and with a modest footprint, only taking place in Father Duffy Square and not the adjacent pedestrian plaza, and allowing ample clearance for access and use of the TKTS steps and booth; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Civic Entertainment Group for Triscuit's promotional launch event of new cracker line in Father Duffy Square on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
