Application from Event Eleven for “Breakfurt Strudel Workshop Event” in Union Square Park on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, July 11, 2013, the following resolution passed with a unanimous vote of 35 in favor; 3 opposed; 1 abstaining:
WHEREAS, Event Eleven ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold "Breakfurt Strudel Workshop Event," an event to promote Pillsbury's Toaster Strudel product, in the North Plaza of Union Square Park on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Applicant's objective is to have a youth-friendly event to promote its strudel product by offering free samples to the general public; and
WHEREAS, The event would be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with set-up beginning no earlier than 5:00 a.m. and breakdown completed no later than 8:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, The event will consist of a 4 ft. by 10 ft. set piece, designed to resemble a toaster machine, from which strudel will be toasted and distributed to the public; one 10 ft. by 10 ft. tent to be used for storage and food preparation; a three-piece German-style band; 3-4 German dancers on a small, raised area; cuckoo clocks; a photo booth; and a small number of picnic tables for the public; and
WHEREAS, The event will be free-of-charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Amplified sound will be limited to small speakers for the band, with Applicant having agreed to limit the volume of amplified sound and eliminate the use of a subwoofer, both in response to the Committee's request; and
WHEREAS, Signage will be limited to a banner above the toaster set piece, with Applicant having agreed to eliminate air blades and other flags at the request of the Committee; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to make a donation to the Union Square Partnership above and beyond any required fees, in response to the Committee's request; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to have no fewer than five personnel dedicated to sanitation during the event, and will provide recycling bins for applicable refuse in response to the Committee's request; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is proposing an event which, while commercial in nature, has minimal impact otherwise, and Applicant has considerably reduced the shape of its event in response to the Committee's concerns; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Event Eleven for "Breakfurt Strudel Workshop Event" in Union Square Park on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
