Application from the Art Production Fund for “Tony Smith, One-Two-Three,” a public art installation, in front of the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park from March 13th to April 10th, 2013.
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, February 14, 2013, the following resolution passed with a unanimous vote of 32 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:
WHEREAS, Art Production Fund ("Applicant") has submitted an application to display Tony Smith's "One-Two-Three," a public art installation, in front of the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park, in order to celebrate and promote awareness of Tony Smith's work; and
WHEREAS, Art Production Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to commissioning, producing and presenting ambitious art projects by emerging and established artists; and
WHEREAS, The installation will be on display from March 13th to April 10th, with set-up beginning no earlier than 10:00 PM on March 12th, and breakdown finishing no later than 6:00 AM on April 11th; and
WHEREAS, Tony Smith is a recognized leader of minimalist sculptures, originally exhibiting his work in Bryant Park in 1967, inaugurating the Park's public arts initiative; and
WHEREAS, The installation will have a limited footprint, and not be roped off from the public; and
WHEREAS, The Fund will provide minimal signage (in the form of a handful of 14"x22" stanchions surrounding the sculptures), will not hold an onsite reception, and will not require amplified sound; and
WHEREAS, The Fund is considering corporate sponsorship for the event but has committed to keeping any reference to such sponsor(s) within the signage aforementioned; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from the Art Production Fund for "Tony Smith, One-Two-Three," a public art installation, in front of the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park from March 13th to April 10th, 2013.
