Newsstand Application #1318006, NEC Madison Avenue & 47th Street
At the regularly scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, December 12, 2013, the Board passed the following resolution by a vote of 33 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining.
WHEREAS, The applicant is proposing a newsstand on the North East corner of Madison Avenue & 47th Street; and
WHEREAS, The location is a high traffic location in close proximity to the northern entrance to Grand Central Terminal by Metro-North customers; and
WHEREAS, The requested location includes a variety of street carts and vendors that further exacerbate the congestion recognized during all business hours; and
WHEREAS, The applicant submitted invalid contact information so that direct communications concerning the application could not take place; and
WHEREAS, The applicant was contacted by mail but did not confirm receipt of information; and
WHEREAS, The applicant failed to appear for consideration of the application; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application to install a newsstand at the NEC of Madison Avenue & 47th Street, and be it further
RESOLVED, Recognizing that the cost of applying for a newsstand is very high to small business owners and operators, Community Board Five requests that DCA refunds the application fee for this application and all applications that are denied.
