Proposal from the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals ("Applicant") to hold an Adoption Event in the North Plaza of Union Square Park on September 9, 2012
WHEREAS, The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold an event in the North Plaza of Union Square Park on Sunday September 9, 2012 from noon to 5:00 pm; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working for the benefit of New York City's homeless animals; and
WHEREAS, Applicant would like to hold an "Animal Adoption Event" to promote awareness of animal adoption, focusing on cat, dog, and rabbit adoption; and
WHEREAS, The proposed animal shelter/rescue participating organizations are: AC&C, Animal Haven, ASPCA, Bideawe, BBAWC, Kittykind, Loving Touch, New Rochelle Human Society, NY Pet-I-Care, Posh Pets, Rabbit Rescue & Rehab, and Sean Casey Rescue; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is partnering with the Petco Foundation to produce the event but there will be minimal commercial signage, if any; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has previously held Animal Adoption Events in Washington Square Park and Prospect Park; and
WHEREAS, A site plan for the event has been submitted by the Applicant; and will include adoption vans, adoption tents, tables, and a stage; and
WHEREAS, The event will include background music and announcements using amplified sound on an intermittent schedule, as requested by the Committee; and
WHEREAS, The Union Square Partnership had no issue with the location, layout, or programming of the event; and
WHEREAS, No members of the public appeared to object to this event; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to hold an event in the North Plaza of Union Square Park on Sunday September 9, 2012.
