Application from Team PRomotion LLC for "Raise Our Flag," an event for the US Olympic Team, in Bryant Park on Tuesday, July 3, 2012
WHEREAS, Team PRomotion LLC ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold "Raise Our Flag," an event for the US Olympic Team, in Bryant Park on Tuesday, July 3, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is an event firm that has worked extensively in venues around New York City; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is producing the event to raise funds for their client, the US Olympic Team, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, in partnership with a sponsor, Procter & Gamble; and
WHEREAS, The event would consist of a display of the largest user-generated flag in the United States as part of the 2012 Olympic campaign, consisting of messages to the US Olympic Team and stories about the flag's meaning from members of the public who have participated online in "Buy a Stitch," a nationwide fundraising effort; and
WHEREAS, The flag would take up approximately one-half of the lawn space on the east side of the lawn, with the public invited to walk between the stripes of the flag on decking approved by Bryant Park Corporation to cause minimal impact to the lawn; and
WHEREAS, The event would take place from 8:00AM to 8:00PM, with set-up beginning at midnight on July 3rd and ending no later than midnight on July 4th; and
WHEREAS, Use of amplified sound would be limited to a microphone being used for the singing of the national anthem from 12:00PM to 12:15PM; and
WHEREAS, The event would include photo opportunities, face-painting for children and the distribution of small plastic flags; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to staff a sanitation team with no fewer than 22 workers on-site during the event; and
WHEREAS, Applicant will be using a security firm with experience in Bryant Park to monitor all components of the event; and
WHEREAS, Signage would consist of seven banners, including two banners 18' wide x 9' high, four banners 2' wide x 10' high, and one banner 4' high x 111' wide, to include the name of the event and the logos of the event's co-sponsors; and
WHEREAS, There would be no additional product promotion, the event would be free of charge and open to the public, and no food, drink or merchandise would be sold; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has the support of Bryant Park Corporation and the Parks Department; and
WHEREAS, Applicant displayed willingness to work with Committee suggestions in planning the event, including modifications to the size of sponsor logos on all banners, and committing to placing no signage on the perimeter of the Park; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Team PRomotion LLC to conduct the "Raise Our Flag" event in Bryant Park on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012.
