Application from EMM Group for American Eagle Outfitters' "Live Your Life" Back to School/Model Casting Event in Father Duffy Square on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012.
WHEREAS, EMM Group ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold American Eagle Outfitters' "Live Your Life" Back to School/Model Casting Event in Father Duffy Square on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Applicant is working with Elliot Winick Productions, an event production firm that has worked extensively in Father Duffy Square, and at other locations in Community Board Five; and
WHEREAS, The event would consist of projections of photographs of interested members of the public, taken by New York photographer Patrick McMullan, to be displayed on the LED screen above the adjacent American Eagle store on Broadway; as well as an opportunity to be chosen as a model for the company's advertising and to meet actress Shay Mitchell and Seventeen Magazine Editor-in-Chief Ann Shoket; and
WHEREAS, The event would take place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with set-up beginning at midnight on July 24th and breakdown completed by 11:59 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, Applicant will start registration in front of and inside the adjacent American Eagle store at 11:00 a.m., bringing small groups into Father Duffy Square starting at 12:00 p.m., in order to manage pedestrian flow and prevent congestion; and
WHEREAS, The event would make use of amplified sound for a live DJ, to be professionally installed so as not to be heard outside of the Square, with a microphone to be present for emergency announcements only; and
WHEREAS, Applicant has estimated attendance between 400-600, and will have between 80-100 in staff over the course of the event; and
WHEREAS, Applicant will be distributing water, pre-packaged Italian ices, silicone bracelets and American Eagle discount cards, but will not be selling anything at this event; and
WHEREAS, Applicant will have a dedicated private security team of 14 present, as well as a sanitation team staffed with four workers to handle on-site trash, including managing a recycling point; and
WHEREAS, The event would be free of charge and open to the public; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five has worked successfully with Elliot Winick of Elliot Winick Productions in the past and has approved events with his involvement; and
WHEREAS, Times Square Alliance is in support of this event, pending final logistical plans to ensure access to the TKTS Booth; and
WHEREAS, Applicant displayed willingness to work with Committee's suggestions in planning the event, including an agreement to utilize recycling points, and to limit the volume of amplified sound; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from EMM Group for American Eagle Outfitters' "Live Your Life" Back to School/Model Casting Event in Father Duffy Square on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012, on the condition that Applicant cooperate with the Times Square Alliance in ensuring access to the TKTS Booth.
