180 Fifth Avenue, a Business Express Application for work on a landmark property, including storefront, signs and lighting

At the regularly scheduled monthly Community Board Five meeting on Thursday, December 14, 2023, the following resolution passed with a vote of 34 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:

WHEREAS, 180 Fifth Avenue is a four-story building with a retail storefront located in the Ladies Mile Historic District; and

WHEREAS, The building is on the west side of Fifth Avenue between West 23rd & 22nd Streets; and

WHEREAS, The building's location is across from the Flatiron Building and is visible from surrounding view corridors on Fifth Avenue and West 23rd Street; and

WHEREAS, The applicant proposed to build a full 12' height frameless glass storefront with Herculite doors, removing the existing bulkhead; and

WHEREAS, The hardware proposed is bright chrome; and

WHEREAS, The applicant has been asked and agreed to resubmit the application to the LPC and this committee, with a revised proposal including framed doors and softer brushed hardware, consonant with retail storefronts in the Ladies Mile Historic District; and

WHEREAS, The applicant has submitted the revised design incorporating the Landmarks Committee's suggestions to the LPC and to the Committee; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That Community Board Five recommends approval of the business express application for 180 Fifth Avenue, Borough of Manhattan.
