Application by Cornell University for a permit for a bus stop in front of the Cornell Club, located at 6 East 44th Street
WHEREAS, The Applicant, Cornell University, seeks a permit to operate a charter bus between its Ithaca, New York campus and the Cornell Club; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant is located at 6 East 44th Street, between Madison and 5th Avenues; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant has operated a charter bus between the Ithaca, New York campus of Cornell University and the Cornell Club since 2004 without the proper permit; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant only recently learned that it lacked the proper permit and immediately sought to correct the oversight; and
WHEREAS, The existing bus service consists of three (3) pickups on Sunday – Friday at 6:30am, 12:30pm, and 6:30pm and three (3) drop offs on Sunday – Friday at 10:30am, 4:30pm, and 10:30pm and only two (2) pickups and drop offs on Saturdays; and
WHEREAS, The existing bus services consists of a regular charter-sized bus that has been outfitted to accommodate a maximum of 32 passengers; and
WHEREAS, The existing bus can fit within the designated loading zone currently in front of the Applicant's location; and
WHEREAS, Passengers waiting to board the bus can wait inside the lobby of the Cornell Club or out on the sidewalk; and
WHEREAS, No members of the public were opposed to the operation of this long-running bus service; therefore be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of Cornell University's application for a permit to operate a bus in front of 6 East 44th Street.
