Application from Robert Mark Parnes Architecture LLC for a new Distinctive Sidewalk on West 43rd Street, at the relocated main entrance of The Paramount Building, 1501 Broadway

WHEREAS, Robert Mark Parnes Architecture LLC ("Applicant"), on behalf of The Paramount Building, has submitted an application for a new distinctive sidewalk on West 43rd Street, at the newly relocated main entrance of The Paramount Building, located at 1501 Broadway; and

WHEREAS, The Paramount Building is a landmarked building with highly decorative, polished bronze entrance doors leading into a two-story decorative lobby, located at 1501 Broadway; and

WHEREAS, Since the implementation of the pedestrian plaza network in Times Square, which included additional walkways and enlargement of sidewalks, the existing distinctive sidewalk that highlighted the Paramount Building entrance was completely removed; and

WHEREAS, The Paramount Building's owners have decided to relocate the building's entrance to West 43rd Street to better accommodate current and future tenants, and this application was previously approved by Community Board Five in February, 2016, and also obtained approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission; and

WHEREAS, The new building entrance replicates the historic Broadway entrance with polished brass doors, and a new Marquee to be installed over the new entrance which replicates the original 43rd Street Marquee; and

WHEREAS, The new distinctive sidewalk located at West 43rd Street also replicates what has been part of The Paramount Building entrance on Broadway, and resulting in a harmonious design; and

WHEREAS, The application has resounding support from the Times Square Alliance; and

WHEREAS, There has been no objection from members of the public or any neighborhood stakeholder; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Robert Mark Parnes Architecture LLC for a new Distinctive Sidewalk on West 43rd Street, at the relocated main entrance of The Paramount Building, 1501 Broadway.
