2015 Street Fair and Block Party Applications

WHEREAS, Community Board Five has received the following applications for renewal of street fairs with the following notations; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages SAPO to continue the open dialogue with Mardi Gras and Clearview to limit neighborhood impact; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five is in favor of expanding the city's event calendar so that the neighborhoods will not have their streets dominated with events during the warmest and most desirable months of the year; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages SAPO & applicants where possible to limit neighborhood impact on 45th Street by relocating and consolidating these events to one date and having them occur on the Avenue of the Americas; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages Fashion Institute of Technology to collaborate with neighborhood stakeholders to address concerns of community impact and noise during the annual FIT Block Party; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages SAPO to move the Chelsea Visiting Neighbor Festival to a new location outside of our district as this is a new event and the community is already overrun with events; and

WHEREAS, The sponsors of these events have an indigenous relationship to Community Board Five; and

WHEREAS, The sponsors are all not-for-profit entitled entities and abide by Community Board Five's Street Activity Permit Policies; therefore be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of 2015 permit applications for street fairs or block parties, pending the removal from the CB5 district of the Chelsea Visiting Neighbors Street Fair and the Gramercy Visiting Neighbors Street Fair.
