Newsstand Application # 2534-2015-ANWS, N/E/C 8th Avenue and 49th Street

WHEREAS, The applicant seeks a permit to install and operate a newsstand on 8^th avenue north of the corner of 49^th street on the east side of 8^th Avenue, and

WHEREAS, The proposed location is in front of a supermarket which sells newspapers and other food items typically sold at newsstands, and

WHEREAS, The proposed newsstand may obstruct pedestrian traffic under current usage levels, especially given the close proximity to the bus stop on this block, and

WHEREAS, The newsstand will likely impact the surrounding area, creating physical and visual impediments, and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five is often reluctant to approve new newsstands because they remain in the district in perpetuity; therefore be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application to install a newsstand on 8^th Avenue at the North East Corner of 49^th Street.
