Madison Square Park Conservancy's application to conduct Mad. Sq. Music Studio programs in on Saturday afternoons, from Saturday September 11through Saturday October 9, 2010

WHEREAS, Community Board Five takes its role in the review of applications for Parks Special Events seriously and requests an opportunity to review the application before a permit is granted by the Parks Department Special Permit Office; and

WHEREAS, Madison Square Park Conservancy has submitted an application seeking permission to conduct Mad. Sq. Music Studio programs in Madison Square Park on Saturday afternoons, from Saturday September 11, 2010 through Saturday October 9, 2010, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM; and

WHEREAS, The Mad. Sq. Music Studio programs require a small footprint within the park, are brief in duration, and are free of charge and open to the public; and

WHEREAS, Mad. Sq. Music Studio programs are long standing special events that are known to be popular among residents of our community; and

WHEREAS, In response to some criticism from some local residents relative to the performance of this event in 2009, Madison Square Park Conservancy has agreed that in the case of inclement weather they will either cancel or reschedule the concerts, rather than relocate, to avoid disturbing adjacent residents; and

WHEREAS, Madison Square Park Conservancy has agreed that when presenting future event applications, that they will clearly state whether or not these events are occurring concurrently with previously approved special events; and

WHEREAS, If there are any material changes in the events from previous years i.e. signage, set-up, scale, location, and/or ancillary activities, Madison Square Park Conservancy has agreed to return and present these changes to Community Board Five; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That Community Board Five recommends approval of Madison Square Park Conservancy's application to conduct Mad. Sq. Music Studio programs in Madison Square Park from Saturday September 11, 2010 through Saturday October 9, 2010.

The above resolution passed by a vote of 41 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining.
