Application from The Marketing Arm on behalf of Doritos and Marvel for a marketing event in Greeley Square featuring a video karaoke booth, pop-up tent and sampling of Doritos snack bags on May 5th, 2017 from 11AM to 6PM

WHEREAS, The Marketing Arm, on behalf of Doritos and Marvel ("Applicant"), submitted permit applications to have a marketing activation in Greeley Square that took place on Friday, May 5th, 2017; and

WHEREAS, The event took place between the hours of 11:00 am and 7:00 pm, with set-up beginning at 6:30 AM and breakdown completed by 10:00 PM; and

WHEREAS, The event had a 10'x20' footprint and promoted Doritos products and the new Marvel theatrical release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, primarily consisting of one 10'x10' tent featuring a competition in a video karaoke booth with monitors and a display case, in which each participant who records a karaoke video was entered to win prize money and a trip to the music festival Coachella; and

WHEREAS, The event included ten brand ambassadors handing out Doritos sample bags, stationed near signage consisting of two branded wind banners; and

WHEREAS, There was no commercial photography or video captured at the event; and no amplified sound (only the sound from the monitor speakers; and

WHEREAS, Although applicant made every effort to supply Community Board Five with adequate signage plans, technical details, and map of the footprint of the event, the event permit submission occurred too late for the proper public review of the application; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application from The Marketing Arm on behalf of Doritos and Marvel for a marketing event in Greeley Square featuring a video karaoke booth, pop-up tent and sampling of Doritos snack bags on May 5th, 2017 from 11AM to 6PM; and be it further

RESOLVED, As the timing of the application being submitted to the Parks Department prevented a proper public hearing by Community Board Five in advance of the event, Community Board Five continues to request that the Parks Department extend the minimum notice required of event applications, to ensure that they can be heard at a public hearing.
