2016 Street Fair and Block Party Applications

WHEREAS, Community Board Five has received the following applications for renewal of street fairs with the following notations; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages SAPO to continue the open dialogue with Mardi Gras and Clearview to limit neighborhood impact; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five is in favor of expanding the city's event calendar so that the neighborhoods will not have their streets dominated with events during the warmest and most desirable months of the year; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five encourages SAPO within the next 6-9 months to revise the rules for both events on plazas and street events using objective criteria and data, taking into account (a) the impact, both positive (e.g. promotional, civic benefit) and negative (e.g. traffic congestion; economic effect on local businesses; environmental impact) on each neighborhood and pedestrian plaza; (b) the degree of indigenous community involvement and/or sponsorship of such event and (c) for larger events, the collective recommendations of the Community Board, Council Member, Borough President, and relevant Business Improvement Districts

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of 2016 permit applications for street fairs and block parties.
