Application from Refinery29 x Sunglass Hut for a marketing event to promote Sunglass Hut's line of eyewear at Herald Square from 10AM to 4PM on June 24th, 2016.

WHEREAS, Refinery29 x Sunglass Hut ("Applicant") submitted a permit application to hold a marketing event to promote Sunglass Hut's line of eyewear at Herald Square from 10AM to 4PM on June 24th, 2016, but due to the Parks Department's application deadline, the application was unable to be heard by Community Board Five prior to the occurrence of the event; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five takes its role in the evaluation of event permits in public spaces seriously, and expects the Parks Department to implement policy changes that allow for the proper public hearing of event permit applications proposed for public parkland; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends denial of the application from Refinery29 x Sunglass Hut for a marketing event to promote Sunglass Hut's line of eyewear at Herald Square from 10AM to 4PM on June 24th, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, As the timing of the application being submitted to the Parks Department prevented a proper public hearing by Community Board Five in advance of the event, Community Board Five continues to request that the Parks Department extend the minimum notice required of event applications, to ensure that they can be heard at a public hearing.
