Application from Madison Square Park Conservancy for “Decade of Shack,” a special event in Madison Square Park on Thursday, June 12, 2014

At the Community Board Five Executive meeting on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, the following resolution passed unanimously:

WHEREAS, Madison Square Park Conservancy (the "Applicant") has submitted a permit application to hold "Decade of Shack," a special event in Madison Square Park commemorating the tenth anniversary of Shake Shack, on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, Set-up for the Event will commence at 6:30 a.m. and breakdown and clean-up will be completed by 10:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, The Event will consist of  five musical groups performing on a 12' x 24' stage located in the south gravel area, as well as a cart giving away complimentary hot dogs as an homage to the early days of the restaurant's operation, with all proceeds from any donations going to Applicant (suggested donation is $4.00); and

WHEREAS, Amplified sound will consist of an address by Danny Meyer and five separate 45-minute sets of music between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., with speaker set-up and placement to be identical to that used for Applicant's annual concert series; and

WHEREAS, The Event is a one-time event and is not going to recur, will not include any signage or sponsorship, and will be limited to the concession and gravel areas, with all other walkways throughout the park to remain unobstructed; and

WHEREAS, Community Board Five has concerns about private enterprises in public spaces, and its support for this event application is pursuant only to its evaluation under Community Board Five's Matrix for the Evaluation of Parks Event Applications; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Madison Square Park Conservancy for "Decade of Shack," a special event in Madison Square Park on Thursday, June 12, 2014.
