Proposal from In His Presence Family Worship Center for a musical event in the North Lawn of Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 25, 2012
WHEREAS, In His Presence Family Worship Center ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold a musical event in the North Lawn of Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 25, 2012; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant is a place of worship on 30th Street and Lexington Avenue; and
WHEREAS, The event would consist of half-hour sets of gospel music performances, with prayer sessions between sets; and
WHEREAS, The festival would take place between the hours of noon and 4 PM, with set-up beginning at 9:00 AM and breakdown completed by 5:00 PM; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant has secured volunteers for the event to help with security; and
WHEREAS, The event will use amplified sound for three instruments, with microphones for featured vocalists; and
WHEREAS, The event would be sponsored by Konica Minolta, who will provide a banner for a small stage bearing its logo as well as that of the Applicant, measuring approximately 8' x 3', at a height no greater than 12'; and
WHEREAS, Community Board Five approved this event in 2009, with no complaints or problems at that time; and
WHEREAS, The Madison Square Park Conservancy raised no objections to this event; and
WHEREAS, The event would be open to the public and free of charge; and
WHEREAS, The Applicant displayed willingness to work with Committee suggestions and the Madison Square Park Conservancy in planning the event, including an agreement to limit the volume of amplified sound; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of In His Presence Family Worship Center's proposal to hold a musical event in the North Plaza of Madison Square Park on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
The above resolution passed by a vote of 36 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining.
