Union Square Partnership requests a change from No Parking to No Standing on the west side of Union Square West b/t 14th and 15th Streets

 At the monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, October 11, 2012, the Board passed the following resolution with a vote of 39 in favor, 0 opposed, 1 abstaining:

WHEREAS, Community Board Five has received requests from property owners along Union Square West for a change from a "No Parking" to a "No Standing" zone on Union Square West between 14th and 15th Streets; and

WHEREAS, An officer from the 13th Precinct testified that it is difficult to enforce a "No Parking Zone" when vehicles are occupied and idling in the zone, no matter how long they remain; and

WHEREAS, The officer and numerous members of the community testified that trucks regularly abuse the spirit of the "No Parking Zone" and create a safety hazard and a public nuisance by, among other things:

WHEREAS, Officer Consindine from the 13th Precinct testified that a "No Standing Zone" could be more effectively enforced to prevent these activities while still allowing for quick pick-ups, drop-offs, and deliveries; therefore be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five requests that the Department of Transportation implement a "No Standing Zone" on Union Square West between 14th and 15th Streets.
