Application from Mission PR for “Wool Uncovered”, an event for the Campaign for Wool, in Bryant Park on Thursday, September 27, 2012

At the scheduled monthly meeting of Community Board Five on Thursday, September13, 2012, the Board passed the following resolution by a vote of 36 in favor; 0 opposed; 1 abstaining:

WHEREAS, Mission PR ("Applicant") has submitted an application to hold "Wool Uncovered", an event for the Campaign for Wool, in Bryant Park on Thursday September 27, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Applicant is a public relations firm that is producing this event along with Elliot Winick Productions, an event production firm that has worked extensively in the District; and

WHEREAS, Applicant is producing the event to promote awareness around pure wool and the use of wool in the fashion and interiors industries for their client, the Campaign for Wool, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which was launched by the Prince of Wales in 2010, which includes representation from the British Wool Marketing Board and International Wool Textile Organization; and

WHEREAS, The event would take place from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with set-up beginning at 11 p.m. on September 26 and ending no later than 6 a.m. on September 28; and

WHEREAS, The event would consist of a wool installation with visual and interactive features including 1) a "Wool Meadow" which would encompass sheep grazing in the Lawn; 2) educational components for the public including knitting stations, panel discussions, yoga, a craft table, and wool-sorting demonstrations; and 3) various wool installations throughout the Park including the stairway, select trees, chairs, and the fountain, that would display wool elements used in fashion and interiors; and

WHEREAS, The event is sponsored in part by other organizations and businesses within the District, such as ABC Carpet and Home and the Big Apple Knitting Guild, who are contributing goods to the event and not funding; and

WHEREAS, The installation would take place on the Fountain Terrace, on the 6th Avenue side steps, and a portion of the Lawn, with thirty sheep grazing in a 40 x 40-foot fenced-in perimeter on the west side of the Lawn; and

WHEREAS, The event would not obstruct any walkways in the Park and will leave more than half of the Lawn open and accessible to the public; and

WHEREAS, Bryant Park Corporation has determined that the event would cause minimal impact to the Lawn; and

WHEREAS, There would be no use of amplified sound; and

WHEREAS, Applicant has agreed to staff a sanitation team on-site during and after the event, to be complemented by the Bryant Park Corporation staff; and

WHEREAS, Signage would be limited to A-boards which would include the name of the event and the logos of the event's sponsors, postcard-size flyers would be distributed with information about wool, and no food, drink or merchandise would be sold; and

WHEREAS, The event would be free of charge and open to the public, with interactive and educational components that would benefit the public; and

WHEREAS, Applicant has the full support of Bryant Park Corporation and the Parks Department; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, Community Board Five recommends approval of the application from Mission PR for "Wool Uncovered", an event for the Campaign for Wool, in Bryant Park on Thursday, September 27, 2012.
